How to Make a Regular Income Selling Your Arts and Crafts

Last Updated on November 19, 2020 by Jessica Adams

Those of us who make a regular income selling our arts and crafts, usually start out sharing a creative passion for our venture – it starts out as a sort of hobby. Whether this means attending pottery classes, trying your hand at watercolors, or making animal prints. Spending time developing these types of skills can be extremely rewarding, as you can progress quickly and soon find yourself making genuinely beautiful items.

But why stop there? If you enjoy engaging with arts and crafts and you believe that you are good at what you do, why not sell your last products to the consumer market? We live in a world where people are used to buying mass-produced goods and seeing items that they once owned, being worn by others.

In fact, having something appealing that is either unique or produced in a very limited capacity, can be extremely appealing. There is definitely room for profit here! And at the end of the day, it’s a win-win situation. You make money from doing something you are passionate about and people receive products that are created with heart and soul. But where to start?

Investing in Equipment & Supplies

arts and craftsIf you’re planning on making money from your arts and crafts projects by turning them into products, it’s time to start treating your art as a business. You need to invest in it. Purchase the necessary equipment to create whatever it is that you specialize in.

If you create pottery, buy your own pottery wheel and make sure you have access to a kiln whenever you please. Or if you’re interested in laser cutting, consider laser light – you can read more about it here.

If you paint custom portraits on canvas, you may want to buy canvases of all sizes, oil paints, and brushes!

Creating Products & Getting Professional Pics

Once your products are ready to go, hire a professional product photographer who will be able to capture them in their best light. They will have access to professional cameras, lighting, and will be much more skilled than any of your girlfriends!

Launch an Etsy Account and/or a Website

Etsy is a great starting block for people who want to sell handmade and unique goods. So, set up a profile, come up with a store name, and list your items for sale. Use the images taken by your product photographer and come up with some interesting product descriptions.

The next logical step then would be to set up your own e-commerce website. You will be able to keep nearly all the profits you make by selling on your own site. Also, through marketing your crafts on social media and discussing them in blog posts on your site, you can easily drive sales back to your e-commerce website.

While you might not have thought about making money through arts and crafts before, it is a great business venture. You could be generating a lot of profit in next to no time!
